Transformers: Revenge Of Some Guy... With Flames... I Think...
I saw Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen today. I have to say I liked it, I even liked it better than the first movie (though to some that may not say much). But even though I liked it, there were some things that bugged me with this movie (much like the first), so I'm going to list the top five things I liked and disliked about TF: ROTF.
Things I liked about it:
1. Starscream and Megs (especially Screamer) got some much needed character development in this movie, something they totally lacked in the previous one. It was especially nice to see Screamer act somewhat like the Screamer I know and love.
2. Frank Welker as Soundwave. YES! Granted since they didn't synth his voice up like in the cartoon, he ends up just sounding like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. That's okay, because if you ever see any of the G1 cartoon eps where they forget to synthesize his voice (they seem to do it at least once every season), he sounds like Dr. Claw then too, so it kinda' works.
3. Simmons is back from the first movie and does an excellent job of making up for being an obnoxious douchebag in the first movie.
4. A severe improvement in the quality of the action scenes this time around. None of that stupid quick cut and seizure came bullshit that plagued the first movie.
5. More robots and more robots fighting robots and other stuff. I still could have a little less human stuff, but it's still much improved from the previous movie.
Things I disliked about it:
1. This movie introduces a ton of characters on both sides and does little to develop them. Shit, Soundwave spends the entire time in space leeching off a satellite and he felt fifty times more developed than The Fallen and HIS NAME IS IN THE FUCKING TITLE!!! Even Sideswipe doesn't get much development and he seemed to be one of the big characters they were pushing for this movie with outside media. O_o
2. Some of the characters that did get development instead blows my mind. Wheelie manages to be 50 times more annoying than his G1 counterpart and gets tons of development time. That damn annoying Leo kid also gets WAY TOO MUCH SCREEN TIME (he and Wheelie need to die... horribly). And while I like the Derp Brothers (Mudflap and Skidz), I can't help but think a lot of their screen time could've been used on a lot of the other characters. At least Jetfire was pretty awesome.
3. Megan Fox STILL can't act. Seriously, she's awful, and I can't help but feel she brings down a lot of the other actors by being in the film all together.
4. Somebody needs to take the slow motion button away from Michael Bay. Sure 300 and Watchmen were able to use it rather stylishly, but here it gets used rather needlessly.
5. Dead Robots bring Sam back to life while Optimus lays around dead. Seriously, what the fuck, people!
Otherwise, I was rather pleased with the movie.
